Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/17/2011Violent demonstrations have re-ignited in Cairo over the last two days, as secular demonstrators protest the dominance of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt’s ongoing elections. Troops responded to rock-throwing and arson with gunfire, and at least nine people have been killed.

In other news, a mosque in Jacksonville, Florida received a suspicious package in the mail, causing a bomb scare. The police were called and the bomb squad came, but the package turned out to be entirely innocuous. The imam told reporters it was better to be safe than sorry.

Meanwhile, British prime minister David Cameron chided the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, for failing to promote the Christian faith sufficiently. Mr. Cameron says that Britain is a Christian country, and Britons should not be ashamed to say so.
