My Review:

My oldest is 25, and my youngest is 10. I have spent a lot of time watching Christian movies with them. With new movies coming out all the time, we have watched a lot of movies over the years.

The Crossmaker is completely different from any Christian kids movie we've ever seen.

The Easter story is told by a Grandfather to his grandchildren. As he tells the story, they go back and forth between the kids and drawings of the Easter story while the grandfather is narrating. These are not just ordinary drawings, these are awesome full color drawings.

What a wonderful re-telling of the Easter story. We loved The Crossmaker!

Included on the DVD are 3 art lessons. Creative lettering using colored pencils, a drawing of the tomb with an angel using pastels, and 3 crosses on a hill using water colors, pen & ink, a& fluorescent crayons.

All 3 art lessons began with the instructor going over all the supplies needed and giving careful instructions.
"Never wipe your pastels with your arm or your sleeve."

The Crossmakers Bonus Features are incredible! One is called Artful Music. Where she draws a large picture of Jesus carrying the cross while music plays. She draws to the music. Definitely watch this. It's worth it.

Another one of the bonus features is The Plan of Salvation - video of drawings with voice overs. This is excellent.

Not only is The Crossmaker an entertaining movie and great art lessons, but it's an evangelism tool as well.

The Crossmaker is an incredible DVD and will make an  awesome Easter present.

Thanks to Propeller, I get to give a copy of The Crossmaker to one of you!

Is Housework a Blessing?

Most people think of housework as hated chores to get through, not a blessing.

I consider housework to be a blessing.

I have changed my weekly cleaning day to Thursday, instead of Friday, so I can cook for the Sabbath on Friday. I thought I'd share a few ways I get a blessing and bless others while cleaning.

Every time I get my dusting mitt, out to dust, I think "Oh, I get to pick a new Bible verse today." We have Scripture holder on top of the entertainment center in our living room. Every week, when I dust, I shuffle the Scripture cards and pick a new one. See?

I am blessed while dusting!

Don't like laundry or ironing? Pray for each family member as you handle their clothes.

Don't like dishes? Turn on praise music while you work. Or, invite the family in the kitchen with you, not necessarily to help, but to talk.

If your family disappears when your working in the kitchen, use the time to pray. These can be rare peaceful moments in an otherwise busy household.

Doing housework is not only a blessing for us, we in turn bless our families.

A Funny Kid Story

Son: "Are you glad I came home?"

Mother: "Depends on what day our talking about!" Because she thinks she's funny!

Son: "After I was born"

Mother: "Oh yeah, that day I was really happy to get out of the hospital and bring you home."

Son: "Sniff...sniff You weren't glad I came home." He is pretending to be sad.

Mother: "Yes! I was really glad to bring you home!" Starting to feel a little guilty...

Son: "hahahahaha" Yep, he's laughing

Father:  "There's been a lot of days between when you were born and now...you have to be specific."

Mother & Father laugh their heads off.

For some reason, the kids didn't laugh as much as the Mother & Father did. Go figure.......

Cinnamon Bundt Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

Last Friday, Abby wanted to make a cake for our Friday night Sabbath meal. We took the Chocolate Crown Cake, and adapted it into a cinnamon cake. Then she whipped up a cream cheese icing to drizzle (or pour!) over the top.

It was so delicious! When we inverted the cake, the cinnamon was on the top of the cake, and a little crispy, and oh so good!

The whole family loved this cake, and I imagine Abby will get to make it a lot more.

Cinnamon Bundt Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

cake batter:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla

For cinnamon batter:
5 T melted butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325*. Grease and flour a 6 cup Bundt pan.

In large bowl, mix sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add all remaining ingredients except cinnamon mixture.

Mix together the melted butter, sugar & cinnamon.

Pour half the cake batter into the prepared bundt pan. Spoon in all of the cinnamon mixture. Pour in the rest of the cake batter.

Bake at 325* for 35-40 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Serves 8.

Cream Cheese Icing

3 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Beat together the cream cheese, the butter & vanilla until creamy. Stir in the powdered sugar. The icing should be runny enough  to drizzle over the cake. You can add a small amount of milk, if desired, to get the right consistency.

If you will be eating all the cake at one sitting, you can pour the icing over the whole cake to serve. Since we didn't eat the whole cake, we poured the icing over each slice.  Store left over icing in the refrigerator.

This cake is great served warm. It was also good the next day, with the icing from the fridge

Enjoy!
